Finding Your Photography Art Style


Many photographers, especially when trying out for the first time, you are advised to find their own personal photographic style. And even after they have been shooting for many years, is one of the things I wonder about. Got a personal photographic style? If it does – can be defined?

After decades of filming I began to wonder if I had a personal style? If I do – I could not see. What I saw as I passed the images in my portfolio is that almost everyone has a sense of shot in the 40s or 50 years and that certain topics (children, the aged, the subway, even banks ) always went running. I began to think that a large part of the photographic style is just what took pictures. What interested you.

Even among the greatest photographers, if you did not know that a shot was made by Ansel Adams said, he realized? I have no idea if the subject was Yosemite Park, but there were many students Ansel – in some cases went to do a similar job. Others turn away from their style. On the other hand, if you knew the work of Bresson and Doisneau well – and was offered a repertoire of shots that had not seen before so photographers - who would have a better chance.
I think a style of photography is much more difficult to identify a painter. A Van Gogh, for example, can easily recognize (assuming that is not done by someone who is emulating Van Gogh) if you have knowledge of his life and art. Even if you have not seen the box above will not be confused with a Picasso or a Rembrandt. With painting, sculpture, music - if you know the artist - you can identify your work by its style.

It is much more difficult to establish a personal style in photography, because it is the heart is a mirror of the physical world. Of course, not just a pure reflection because the photographer decides what time to take the photo, as you take the photo, where stopping, what shutter speed to use, and other technical aspects. But the biggest clue to the style of calling a photographer is what sets the framework: the things that the photographer is fascinated.

Since not much shooting in the street is the anticipation, it is useful to have a clue about what people tend to do in a particular situation. His ideas about what should be interesting to fed. Whether through reading literature or listening to music - needs to fuel his imagination. I need more fuel than you get with just the study of other photographers.
It’s why when you start to study the great photographers often discover they have a musical background (such as Adams once thought be a concert piano). The relationship between competent musicians and great photographers is difficult to ignore. And then add on top of it – how you spend your time on this earth. What made me think this thing style is that I often workshops that promise to help students find their own style. Given my ideas about what makes a style of photographic truth, I do not see how this can be collected in a one-week workshop.
This is an obvious observation about the photographers? I’m not sure because I’ve seen so many trying to “find their own style,” as I did long ago – only to discover – as the end of the Wizard of Oz, who was carrying with me all along, but do not know.
